FAQs

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very fine, barely thicker than a hair. You may not even feel them as they are inserted or you may feel a mild brief pricking sensation as they penetrate the surface of the skin. Once they are in place you may feel a mild dull, heavy, spreading or tingling sensation which will usually subside after a few seconds. Most people find the experience of acupuncture very relaxing and a lot of people fall asleep during their treatments.

How do I take Chinese herbs?

Your Chinese herbal formula will usually be prepared for you in concentrated granules. You will need to dissolve them in a little boiling water and drink them on an empty stomach, usually twice daily. Alternatively the herbs can be put into gelatine capsules and swallowed with water. Your herbal formula is prepared specifically for your body and health condition so that they should not have any unpleasant side-effects. If you do notice any side effects or something doesn’t feel right then please contact us as soon as possible to let us know.

Do you use endangered species or animals?

No endangered animals or plants are ever used in any prescription from Flow Chinese Medicine. We only source our herbs from suppliers who regularly batch test herbs and strictly monitor for quality control of any heavy metal and pesticide residues.

All herbal ingredients used at Flow Chinese Medicine in Surry Hills Sydney are approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in consultation with the Endangered Species Certification Scheme.

Do you have disabled access?

Yes, we have a ramp and a lift for easier access for wheelchairs, walkers and prams.

Can I claim a rebate with Medicare or my private health fund?

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine are not covered by Medicare, but acupuncture is covered by most private health funds. Please check with your individual fund to see if you are covered for acupuncture and how much your rebate will be.

We have HICAPS so, if you are eligible, you can claim your private health fund rebate at the time of payment.

Do you do home visits?

No, sorry. Our clients come from all over Sydney so it is unfortunately not possible to facilitate home visits.

Are my records kept confidential?

Yes, your personal information and health records are kept strictly private and confidential, and are stored with secure HIPAA compliant encryption. Your information will not be released to anyone without your prior written consent. Telehealth sessions are HIPAA compliant, FERPA compliant, and ISO 27001 certified, with end-to-end encryption (E2EE).

How do I reschedule or cancel my appointment?

If you need to reschedule your appointment or cancel it for any reason, please do so at least 1 business day prior to your appointment. This gives us time to offer your spot to someone else who may be waiting for an appointment.

There is a link you can use to reschedule or cancel in both your appointment confirmation email and in your appointment reminder email. However this link will only work up to 24 hours before your appointment time.

Alternatively you can call us on 0432 413 316.

Cancellation fees will apply as follows:

  • More than 1 business day notice: no charge
  • Less than 1 business day notice: 50% of the appointment fee charged
  • Missed appointment: 50% of appointment fee charged
What is your Cancellation Policy?

Before you book an appointment, please take a minute to read the Cancellation Policy.

You are advised that in booking an appointment you are reserving a practitioner’s time exclusively for your treatment. Others may be waiting for an appointment but are not available at short notice.

In consideration for others, should you have to change your appointment to another time or another day or cancel it for any reason, please give at least 24 hours’ notice, otherwise a cancellation fee will be charged. Less than 1 business day notice or a missed appointment with no notice will be charged 50% of the appointment fee.

In booking an appointment you agree to honor an invoice for charges incurred due to late cancellation.
